Army of Two: The 40th Day DLC announced, coming in April

EA has today announced DLC for Army of Two: The 40th Day, titled Chapters of Deceit.

Continuing the recent trend of launching content that probably should have been in the full game, Chapters of Deceit has you and buddy continue the action over two more levels where you stumble across information that could lead to the end of the invasion by Jonah and the 40th Day Initiative army. Guess the few people that actually play this game may be mildly excited ...

The DLC will launch on April 1st for 800 Microsoft points.

More Halo from Bungie?

While talking to CVG Bungie said that seeing Halo: Reach as their final involvement in the Halo franchise may be 'premature'.

Although Bungie is treating it as their last game in the franchise, they won't say it definately is their final piece.

Brian Jarrard, the community boss at Bungie said: "You know, it might be premature to say we'll never ever, ever make a Halo game again. We sort of have a little special place for Halo in our hearts. But for the foreseeable future, this is it."

"There is a degree of pressure there but I also think that inspires our team. If we don't ever come back to Halo again, we better damn well make sure that our last game is the best one ever. Let's set that bar really high and at least leave our fans something really special."

This is good news to all the hardcore Halo fans, and lets face it, there is a lot of them out there.

Wossy says October for Natal, Microsoft say nay nay!

TV host Jonathan Ross last night tweeted that Project Natal will hit shelves in October.
This comes after the host, a fan of video games, and of spoilers apparently, got to try out the upcoming product last night.

He tweeted:

OK. Before bed. Natal on X Box impressive. Not quite there yet i think but tye have til october and if they get it right...skys the limit.

October eh? Well Microsoft don't think so.

VG247 were told :

"There have been no further announcements on the release date of Project Natal. It remains scheduled for Christmas 2010"

Sounds to us like an overly mouthy Microsoft rep let it slip, or Wossy got it wrong totally.
Either way, we still don't know, but what we do know is we can watch the man himself playing Natal below! Enjoy.

Bioshock 2 DLC Detailed

2K Games announced today that Bioshock 2 will be receiving some very welcome DLC. They have stated that both mulitplayer and singleplayer experiences will be catered for. However the first pack called "Sinclair Solutions Test Pack" will be multiplayer content only and will bring with it; Rank cap increased to 50, 2 new playable characters, a third upgrade for each weapon, 5 additional masks and 20 new trials. The DLC is set to be released in March with a price of 400MSP. The other DLC will be released over the course of the year.

Pachter Predicts Natal Success

Microsoft and Sony’s attempt to catch up in the casual gamers market has resulted in Xbox’s Natal Project and the Arc system for the PS3, which will both bring new interactivity to the consoles, much like Nintendo does with the Wii. Michael Pachter a professional gaming industry analyst has predicted that Natal will outsell Arc by 5:1, he puts this down to the fact that Natal is out of the box friendly, and is much more accessible than the Arc system. He expects Natal units to fly of the shelves at a far greater rate when both peripherals are released before the end of the year.

Microsofts Word on "The Pro" Fiasco

Stephen Toulouse, Director of Policy and Enforcement, has released a statement regarding the now infamous "The Pro" video. The video shows The Pro, who is a moderator, seemingly handing out console suspensions and bans without giving much reason as to why. However Stephen stated that he had "seen the heavily edited video," and that while he will have a word with The Pro regarding his tone and manner in the video, it is more likely than not that The Pro was acting within his authority, and did not step out of his bounds.

Activision Facing Lawsuit

Media giants Activision are facing criticism and a lawsuit over the way in which they patented Guitar Hero. "Patent Complience Group," the group behind the lawsuit, is maintaining that the "Patent" and "Patent Pending" on the box is misleading and that Activision don't actually hold the patent or the patent they do hold does not accurately describe the Guitar Hero game/controller.

If found guilty Activision face a $500 fine for every misleading product sold, and as this covers 4 games in this series it could become a costly mistake on their part. However the chances of it ever getting that far are extremely slim, especially when taking into account recent similar cases.

Bungie to make up for ODST failures

In a recent chat with OXM Bungie have stated that they would really have liked to incorporate match-making into the firefight mode, but didn't have time to get it up and running, and also said that could be why it hasn't been as popular as previous Halo games. However, they are going to be making up for it in Halo: Reach.

In his chat he said:
"I regret not being able to go back and make Firefight in ODST work and have match-making. I think we would have loved to have done that.

"We've heard it from the fans, we've heard it from the press. It's definitely something we'd have loved to be able to do but we didn't have the scope on the project. We didn't have the time.

He added: "We accomplished a tremendous amount, but that's probably the reason ODST isn't being played as much right now as we'd like. It has had a shorter lifecycle than any of the Halo titles before. But Reach is our big chance to make up for some of those things. "

Perfect Dark XBLA to have Goldeneye multiplayer maps and weapons

Microsoft Game Studios’ Ken Lobb has confirmed that the soon-to-be-released XBLA Perfect Dark revamp will contain maps featured in Goldeneye. As of yet, confirmed levels are Complex, Felicity and Temple.

In addition, the executive told Kotaku there will also be weapons in the game from the FPS classic, but will be called different names due to potential legal reasons.

You Weren't There Man! - COD 'Vietnam' rumors continue

I like Treyarch games. There. I said it.

Quantum of Solace was the best Bond game since Goldeneye, Call of Duty: World at War is great, and Call of Duty 3 was massively under rated, even with its flaws.
And even though Infinite Ward also make great games, I dislike the IW snobbery that we see a lot of when dealing with Call of Duty.
So when I heard about a new Treyarch COD, and also rumblings of it being set in Vietman, I almost wet myself. I said almost.

So its pleasing to hear that the guy's at VG247 stumbled across some new info about an upcoming Activision 'Video Game', which includes character names and backgrounds, notably centered around the Vietnam war, and possibly Russia.
It comes after a casting call that asked for four actors to provide voice acting, motion capture and other such shindigary for a game which sounds very much like the rumored Call of Duty Vietnam game.

Also, there is a hefty mention of the characters, and their backgrounds, including a "fiercely patriotic veteran of WW2", a "very physically fit black man in his 20s" and a "Russian-born martial arts expert and CIA operative who’s calm to the point of being cold and detached".

Yep. That really does sound like a lonely hearts column advert.

So there we have it. A possible change in direction from the traditional battlefield home of Call of Duty. We have Vietnam, a bit of martial art's and possibly some other Cold War action as well.

Bring it on. We'll put up more info as we get it. Going by previous COD games, we should get some solid info by spring. If they got the soundtrack right on this, it could be a classic game - and one of the better set during Vietnam.

More programming content heading to Xbox LIVE

Kotaku is reporting that Microsoft has plans to expand its traditional programming content after the success of 1 vs 100

Xbox product management boss Aaron Greenberg said; "1 vs. 100 was an entirely new space for us. In many ways we are pioneering an entirely new category of entertainment and it has been very successful"

"It wasn't that hard for us to convince folks" to advertise on 1 vs. 100, he said. "Now we're looking at not just doing more of that, but how do you think about new types of programming on a network of 23 million people."

"We're all over the board with ideas," Greenberg said. "I think 1 vs. 100 was one of those, we will definitely throughout the year reveal more of the innovative things we are thinking about."

Wheel of Fortune on Xbox LIVE anyone?

As long as the content is good and the advertising isn't intrusive or annoying (Bing and Decide, anyone?) then this could work very well indeed, especially for Microsoft. 23 Million people to potentially advertise to = $$$

Darksiders Demo

A 90 minute demo for Darksiders is coming to the 360 and PS3 on the 25th February.

The demo contains the entire first level, Twilight Cathedral. It includes puzzles, equipment to find and two, yes two, boss battles.

That is pretty awesome for a demo, and definitely handy for people like me, who aren't sure whether to pick the game up or not.

Leaked Windows Mobile 7 images show Xbox LIVE love

If we've learned anything from the days of the cold war, its that spying is a terrible thing. But when it comes to gadgets however, its can be a very good thing.

Today, Microsoft will take to the stage at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona, and unveil what they hope will finally be a success for them in the Mobile space, Windows Mobile 7.

So whats that go to do with gaming?, you ask. Well, normally nothing. Except over the last few months, there have been rumors of some kind of Xbox LIVE integration in this new system, dubbed 'Windows phone'.

And it looks like its here. The guys at Engadget have been handed a few leaked snapshots of the device's UI, hidden (not so well) behind a banner with the Xbox LIVE logo slapped on it, which suggests some integration with the service.

The official keynote will take place at 2pm so expect some more info then on how much integration this thing will have, but we're hoping for more than just simply accessing our friends list on the phone. If that is the case, the iPhone and Blackberry have nothing to fear.

Mass Effect 2 Review

Missed travelling the galaxy with your favourite crew and your ship the Normandy? Not to worry, Commander Shepard and co. make there return in EA and Bioware’s Mass Effect 2.

Commander Shepard returns in the sequel to one of the best selling games of 2007, Mass Effect. When you first start you are on the Normandy and you are wiping out the rest of the Geth resistance which continued from ME. Joker (The Pilot) then notices an unknown ship coming in on an intercept course for the Normandy; he tries to shake them off but the unknown enemy ship charges weapons and strikes the Normandy multiple times. You then have a confrontation with Ashley Williams from ME1 and how she wants to help but Shepard makes her leave with the rest of the crew.

You now take control of Shepard and must reach the cockpit to speak to Joker and get him off the ship. Just before you reach Joker, you walk through part of the deck where the hull has been breached and you can see into space and it’s absolutely breathtaking. I wanted to stand there forever just looking at the stars but I had to save Joker. Once you reach Joker, you have to convince him that the Normandy is a lost cause and he must get in the escape pod. He agrees, and you put him in the pod and just as you are about to enter it yourself the enemy ship attacks again making Shepard lose his footing and flying out of the hull breach in the ship. He clings onto a control panel and manages to launch the escape pod with Joker inside and then Shepard flies out of the cockpit hitting debris on the way out damaging his oxygen supply and the last show Shepard flying through space towards a planet, trying not to suffocate.

The gameplay in Mass Effect 2 has been greatly improved since Mass Effect. In the first Mass Effect, I didn’t like how it played at all and I am surprised I gave ME2 a chance but I did and I wasn’t disappointed. Bioware have introduced a whole new combat system and I found it easier to use my biotics/talents (I chose Adept Class). Now instead of just having one biotic being mapped to Y, you can now have 3 biotics/talents mapped for easy use. You can level the power of your biotics/talents by using squad points, you can each one up to Level 4 and I managed to get my Push Talent up to level 4 and when I did I got a choice of what kind of Super Biotic I want it to be like (E.g, Push multiple enemies or a superman push move) I went with the Superman Push move which means, if an enemy gets hit with it, he will go flying!

This goes the same for your squad, you are still allowed to take 2 with you on missions and there has been an introduction of new characters and the main ones being Miranda and Jacob. We see the return of Garrus, Ashley and Tali. When choosing a squad I normally like a mix of strength and biotics, I normally go for Garrus and Miranda. New characters appear all around the galaxy and you might even see some old faces.

ME2 has beautiful visuals, I was really impressed and you can tell the differences from ME. There are lots of new planets to visit and even though some parts of the Mass Effect universe are dark and evil, it’s still nice to look at. You can now customise your armour, with new patterns and colours. I went for a sort of Red Tiger style from Call of Duty. The artists and level designers have put a lot of thought and passion into ME2 and they have not let us down, I can’t wait to give it another play through just to look at the stars and planets.

Due to the game being set in 2185, the music can be different depending which planet you are on. Example, Omega has a club called Afterlife there which plays dark club music. I loved the music there and I often just travel there just to listen to the music and have a dance but the music hasn’t evolved that much considering the time period. The voice acting is as good as ever, including Commander Shepard (Mark Seer) and Miranda Lawson (Yvonne Strzechowski). All the voice acting is good throughout the game, even for minor characters throughout the story. Voice acting plays a big part in todays modern games and storylines, without good voice actors most games wouldn’t be played. The music is composed by Jack Wall and he has done a brilliant job with it, I hope he continues to work with Bioware for ME3.

Overall, ME2 is a great story and I would truly recommend this game to anyone, even if you didn’t like the first one. I didn’t like ME but I gave it’s sequel a go and I love it, it’s my Game of the Year at the moment. With so many different choices and paths in this game, you can give it more than one play through and get a total different story. Be good, be evil, be Shepard.

BioShock 2 Review

Welcome back to Rapture, the under water oasis home to some of the worlds friendliest and most innocent children on Earth. But, beneath this thin veil of deception lays a heavily guarded secret and a more sinister existence. It's your job, Daddy, to find out just what it is and how you can fix it.

Story

As with the original game, story is a heavy hitter and major selling point to the game and it is genuinely inredibly difficult to describe what's going on without spoiling it for you along the way.

You play the game as one of the "Big Daddy" characters, whose job is to guard and protect the Little Sisters. Little sisters are known for being removed from the concious world by a chemical injection which rewrites the bio-chemistry, labelled "Adam". This Adam is harvested by the Little Sisters and is in demand by the brain washed inhabitants hell bent on stopping the Sister's in the process, hence your role as protector.

Your story is a little different, as your Sister has been separated from you and it's your task to locate and find her by befriending residents involved with the project in order to gain access to her captor, and to ultimately rescue and close down the operation for good.

Gameplay

To aid you on your journey, BioShock 2 utilises the same core gameplay as the original whereby you must pair a weapon (be it melee weapon or some sort of gun) and a special power ability fueled by something called "Eve". Eve hypo's fuel whichever power up you've selected at the time and range from hurling fire on your enemies, to freezing them (allowing you to charge in for an insta-kill smash) or zapping them with a chain electro-bolt, especially satisfying when being shot by a host of enemies, nice placed in a puddle.

Weapon combinations and correct use of the Eve power ups is ultimately relevant to how much enjoyment you get out of the game. Use the gun alone and you're defeating the object and purpose of the game. Experiment a little, if there's a group of enemies cowering over a deceased corpse, rather than going in all guns blazing, fire your hypnosis on one of them so he takes the others out, then freeze that sucker ready for a single takedown. Likewise, when you reach the dark depths of the game where the magic disappearing residents start throwing fireballs at you, fry their asses to freeze them, then turn their flaming grenades back on them with telekenises.

On top of this mechanic come the Little Sisters whom I touched on earlier. During the game, you will encounter other Big Daddy's and their paired Sisters who you will have to fight in order to adopt or harvest the sisters to receive more adam. Adam is a sort of currency, which you may exchange in special vending machines for bio upgrades for full customisation of your character. Once you've adopted the Sister, pressing and holding the X button brings up a creepy outline directing you to a body holding the precious Adam which only the Little Sister's can retrieve. Whilst she's busy removing the Adam with the biggest needle seen in gaming and the pin point accuracy injections that any school nurse would be proud of, you have to fight and fend off any enemies who come in to sabotage the retrieval.

Controls are standard stuff where movement is allocated to the left and right anologue sticks and weapon firing to the right trigger (as normal). Left trigger controls the Eve power ups and right/left bumpers allow fast changing of each weapon/power up combo respectively. Due to the game's setting and general feel, it's not uncommon to experience headaches, dizzyness or even faint nausea, I experienced the former, so it's something to watch out for.

Graphics

If you've played and enjoyed the orginal game, these locations will be familiar. This appears to have rattled a few cages by people who wanted more, and new locations. The way I see it, taking the setting to anywhere other than Rapture would've only been a cash in on the name.

This is a genuinely stunning location with massive attention to detail, fantastic level design with a truly atmospheric underwater eutopia feeling gone bad. Decaying walls, flickering lights, staggered graffiti and leaky rooves all indicate that this place is about to sink further into disripute.

Enemies are suitably attired and kitted out, complete with freakish garments familiar to the decade in which the game is set, and fire, water and electric effects are all believable and genuinely beautiful to behold.

Sound

Being set in the late 50's, the music in this game is of its time and very fitting with the placement and setting of the game. From the classic grammerphone style crackle in the loading screen to the radio frequency high pitched whine as the signal comes and goes via your radio communicator, everything has a satisfyingly classic, Deco feeling.

Voice overs are well acted and believable, fairly frequent but never being intrusive as the game's makers have opted to overlay the story telling into the gameplay via radio chats and pre-recorded voice notes dotted around the environments rather than supplementing the gameplay for several in game movie sequences.

From the Big Daddy's footsteps being heard when you begin to approach one, and the "come on Mr B, we'll miss the angel's dancing" voice overs from the Little Sister's is satisfyingly creepy and terrifying. One last feature I loved was the first time I jumped on my seat when I walked underneath a  rather large drip of water and the metallic *thud, thud, thud* on the helmet was a massive shock.

Multiplayer

Okay, this is a sore point and one the fans of the original game were not happy about to say the least. I can report however that the multiplayer is absolutely nothing to fear whatsoever.

The game's multiplayer is set in the same locations that you explore in the singleplayer, each character is customisable and you're able to pack a combination of power ups and weaponry just like the singleplayer game. There's a few balancing issues where pistols are stronger than shotguns at both distance and close range, but I expect these will be ironed out soon enough.

There's standard multiplayer game modes with a BioShock twist including deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the Little Sister (a'la Cap the flag) etc. all of which are fun in short bursts. There's a ranking system (as all multiplayer games now feature) on 1-50, with each rank, new weapons etc. are unlocked.

It's good fun, but don't look at this as some Left 4 Dead or Call of Duty replacement and take it for what it is, an extra way to boost play time on one of your new favourite games with others. It'll never take off and it will likely die a death soon due to inactivity but that's not due to poor design and boring gameplay, it'll just suffer like all single player games with tact on multiplayer with people moving on to the next franchise.

Summary

How to summarise this then, it's a toughy. To keep the game fresh, surprising and fun to the end I've had to completely avoid the story and plotline and to be honest, that's the game's star feature.

With hours of play time, fantasticly atmospheric surroundings, more of the same from BioShock and multiplayer which is surprisingly decent to boot this is one not to miss package and is a fitting and fully complimentary sequel to the critically acclaimed original.

Treat this as what it is, an alternative look on the downfall of Rapture and not exactly a true sequel which relies on "more" and "better" of everything and their won't be a single disappointment. Go buy, now.

More info and possible "real name" for Natal to come at E3

Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has said that more news regarding Natal will be announced at E3 – maybe even the actual name of it.

Speaking with Joystiq during X10, he said that the device was still currently being discussed and games will be sorted into a new category never seen before.

“I would say to expect us to share a news around E3 time,” he said. “But right now, we’re obviously in a codename status. We just unveiled this thing about seven months ago, so it’s an entirely new category of games and entertainment."

Greenberg expects it to be in “millions of homes” this holiday season, so hopefully it will still be referred to as “Natal” as that’s what we've all grown accustomed to.

New trailer for Alien vs Predator (What, are you surprised?!)

While I do love seeing alien organs being propelled around jungles in the flicker of torchlight, SEGA could really do their fans a favour and stop teasing them anymore! We want the game already!

Anyway, here's the latest trailer:

They may contain minor spoilers, but they're just here to whet your appetites come release early April.

and, trailer 2:

Crackdown 2 'June launch' memo a "mistake".

A press release associated with the games appearance at the X10 event yesterday led to some confusion after it stated a June 2010 release date on it. Today, Microsoft issued a follow up message stating:

Today you received an email on Xbox 360’s January NPD results, and we’d like to make a clarification. We have not announced a launch date for “Crackdown 2″ and the time frame listed in the mail was incorrect. Please look for an announcement on this title at a later date.Apologies for any confusion this may have caused.
No Crackdown for June 2010 then. At least, officially anyway.

X10: Peter Molyneux Shows What Will "Piss Off" Gamers

The Lionhead boss confirmed at X10 today not that Fable III would have fully functioning Natal support and no other control method as some feared, but instead it won't have the traditional Health Bar or HUD which have been a staple of most games especially RPG's.

This is the news the Peter Molyneux was quoted as saying he feared would cause people to be "pissed off".

He said that instead of using a health bar, Fable III will adopt a feature from recent action titles with environmental graphic changes showing how close you are to going bye bye.

“Look at the screen! It’s completely clean," Molyneux said at a presentation of the game, attended by Wired.

"Why do we need the fucking health bar?” He added

Whether this means the rise of the "jelly blood" is upon us is yet to be determined, however all gamers will be wondering as to how it will work without any HUD, especially since the only game completely without a HUD in recent memory was Mirrors Edge.

Apparently the HUD and health bar aren't the only radical changes that Fable III have undergone as apparently the menus have all changed to.

“The 2-D parts of Fable 1 and Fable 2 were rubbish,” he stated “That’s why people didn’t change their clothes, or change their weapons.” In Fable III he added, that he's trying to implement customization as "part of the game."

“Which, I just realized, I’m not supposed to talk about,” he concluded.

As to how pissed off gamers are by not having a HUD or being forced to customize your character only time will tell, be sure to check back at Game Attic as we doubt with Peter Molyneux at the helm, that these will be the last major announcement we hear before launch.

X10: Dead Rising 2 New Screens & Movie

Well X10 is certainly proving to be very fruitful to gamers all around so Capcom decided to get in on the fun and has just released a bunch of new screenshots and a video for Dead Rising 2, which were shown at X10.

Dead Rising 2 the sequel to the Zombierific open-mall action game which starred Frank West the no nonsense photographer who had a serious case of the wrong place at the wrong time. The sequel follows Chuck Greene a former national motocross champion who is smashing zombie heads in Fortune City, Nevada (modeled of Las Vegas) trying to find someone very dear to him.

Not happy with giving us just screenshots and a new movie, they even gave us a release date Dead rising 2 is set to be released on August 31 in the US and September 1 in Europe.Xbox 360 and PS3.

First and foremost we have a few select pics from the screenshots that were released at X10, the rest will be put up tomorrow, but these are some of the choicest pics.

To finish it off we have the Gameplay video which shows a few new weapons such as the firework cannon and also shows the much talked about weapon customization system. Thanks to VG247 for allowing us to show it to you,
